Emerging Trends in Digital News: History, Context and
Innovation at the Intersection of Content and Technology
Two decades into the internet publishing, news production and
distribution models have forever changed. This presentation and discussion
will feature a brief history of the digital evolution of US Media through
case studies of several leading US media companies including The New York
Times, Yahoo News and Wall Street Journal. We will look at business and
product development approaches, trends in national, local and investigative
reporting and how data-science is contributing to innovation in the
production and analysis of story trends through semantic, social, data and
computer assisted reporting and data visualization techniques. We will
discuss trends, product development frameworks and look at trend setting
work at the intersection of content and technology.
